Optical Design Assignment 3

  1. Generate an animation of astigmatism (W222 y2) from zero to four waves. At what point does aliasing signifcantly distort the diffraction pattern?

  2. Select a value for astigmatism that does not significantly alias, but which does show the geometrical line image. Then generate an animation through focus that includes both tangential and sagittal line foci.

  3. Generate an animation of spherical aberration (W040 r4) from zero to four waves. At what point does aliasing signifcantly distort the diffraction pattern?

  4. Select a value for spherical aberration that does not significantly alias, but which does show the geometrical image. Then generate an animation through focus that includes both paraxial and and marginal foci.

  5. For the same value of spherical aberration used above. Plot the Hankel transform at midfocus (halfway between paraxial and marginal focus). Compare the results to those obtained using the fft.
