Assignment 6
- Read Smith Section 2.6 (p 34-38). Work Example D using a
spreadsheet and Matlab. Your final results should match Smith's Table
2.10. Use a paraxial solve to find the location and size of the image.
- Using the file asgn6.xls, generated
from an OSLO paraxial raytrace, do the following:
- Find the focal length and f/number.
- Find the distance from surface 7 to the paraxial image plane.
Is the specified image plane closer or further from the lens than
the paraxial image plane?
- Generate a new chief ray such that surface 4 is the stop of the
system.
- Using the lens description in Smith, page 506, do the following using OSLO:
- Find the effective focal length (efl).
- Show a drawing of the lens.
- Find the back focal plane using a paraxial solve.
- Show a paraxial raytrace using OSLO.
- Show the paraxial setup from OSLO.
- For the previous lens, find the paraxial raytrace using Excel and
using MATLAB. The results should match the OSLO results.
