Course Description
Laboratory course stressing experimental techniques, laboratory
reporting, safety, and instrumentation. Experimental investigation of
basic steady-state and transient circuits.
Corequisite(s): ECE 201 or EGR 203.
Topics
- Laboratory safety, basic measurements of resistance, voltage, and current using handheld multimeter.
- Prototype construction with solderless breadboard. Introduction to components: LEDs, lamps, DC motors, and light-sensitive resistors. I-V characteristics and Ohm's Law , Kirchoff's current law (KCL) and voltage law (KVL)
- Introduction to data acquisition system, analog input, digital inputs and outputs.
- CD4011 chip (quad NAND gates), Wheatstone bridge, MATLAB softscope.
- Introduction to Agilent function generator and oscilloscope, basic waveforms, analog output using data acquisition system.
- Design problem, LM348 operational amplifier circuits, diode characteristics
- Introduction to transistors, full-wave rectifier.
- Capacitance measurements, RC time constants
- LC and LCR circuits, frequency analysis
